Sobre os Selos
A arte da folha é composta pelos 12 signos já emitidos em selos individualmente, formando uma mandala com os quatro selos centrais. O selo da parte superior esquerda apresenta os signos de Peixes, Áries e Touro, bem como seus planetas regentes (respectivamente Netuno, Marte e Vênus). Na parte superior direita estão os signos de Gêmeos, Câncer e Leão, regidos por Mercúrio, pela Lua e pelo Sol. O selo inferior direito mostra os signos de Virgem, Libra e Escorpião, cujos regentes são Mercúrio, Vênus e Plutão; e por último, o selo inferior esquerdo une os signos de Capricórnio, Sagitário e Aquário, regidos por Júpiter, Saturno e Urano. Todos os selos apresentam ilustração e símbolo de cada signo, e no centro está o Planeta Terra. Foi utilizada a técnica de ilustração digital.
Mandala zodiacal - juntando as peças do quebra-cabeças
Para marcar o ciclo astrológico 2019/2020, os Correios lançaram 12 selos homenageando cada um dos signos do Zodíaco. Agora, ao final dele, brindamos os filatelistas e os amantes da Astrologia com a folha que reúne todos os signos em formato de mandala, esse desenho que fascina e intriga desde a antiguidade.
A palavra mandala tem origem do sânscrito e significa círculo. Sua utilização em práticas espirituais já era observada desde o século VIII, na região do Tibete, onde a mandala, conforme a tradição budista, era considerada uma janela para o autoconhecimento e para a compreensão do cosmo. Entretanto, formas circulares são encontradas em diversas culturas antigas, ligadas a calendários, observações astronômicas e outros ciclos naturais.
Mandala zodiacal
Astronomia e Astrologia já foram uma única ciência. Os astrônomos da antiguidade, acreditando no poder dos astros de reger e influenciar aspectos da vida, dividiram o céu em 12 partes, considerando a órbita dos planetas observada a partir da Terra. Para cada parte atribuíram um signo, de acordo com a constelação avistada naquela determinada região do céu.
Por volta do século XVI a.C., os astrólogos babilônios, utilizando o círculo de 360 graus (um zodíaco de 12 signos similares aos de hoje), desenvolveram efemérides (tábuas de dados astrológicos) que listavam as posições planetárias e eclipses. Mil anos depois, criaram o conceito de astrologia natal, que era visto como um previsor da vida de uma pessoa. O mapa astral, em formato de mandala, reúne todas as informações profundas e inspiradoras sobre um indivíduo e sua personalidade.
Na roda zodiacal está representada a totalidade da experiência humana, onde cada signo indica um tipo básico de personalidade, determinado, entre outros aspectos, pela posição ocupada pelo Sol no momento em que a pessoa nasceu. Cada signo tem seu lado positivo, construtivo (luz), e o seu lado negativo, destrutivo (sombra).
O mapa astral é como uma fotografia do céu no momento do nascimento de uma pessoa. Além dos signos do zodíaco, compõem esse mapa os quatro elementos (fogo, terra, ar e água), as qualidades (cardeal, fixo e mutável) e as polaridades (positivo e negativo), os planetas e suas posições, as casas (12, no total, que equivalem a áreas específicas da vida do indivíduo como “Posses e recursos pessoais”, “Comunicação”, “Ambiente familiar” etc.) e os aspectos (ângulos que se formam criando relações geométricas entre os planetas: conjunção, sextil, quadratura, trígono e oposição).
Juntando todas as partes de um mapa astrológico é possível perceber o que é dominante, o que está sob a superfície – essa é a arte da Astrologia: interpretar todos esses elementos.
Astrologia como ferramenta de auto-conhecimento
A Astrologia já foi ensinada em faculdades e universidades como especialização e era matéria exigida para estudantes de medicina até o fim do século XVII. Hoje, é usada em vários aspectos da vida. Não se trata de adivinhação, mas de uma ferramenta que auxilia na busca pelo autoconhecimento. O mapa astral não define nem rotula um indivíduo, mas explica comportamentos e funciona como um guia, indicando às pessoas os caminhos a seguir para aumentar o seu bem-estar.
Fato é que a Astrologia tem ganhado força, impulsionada pelo movimento crescente de pessoas que buscam o autoconhecimento e a chave para a realização do seu propósito de vida, que acreditam estar dentro e não fora de si.
Como disse o astrólogo Oscar Quiroga: “Fazendo bom uso da Astrologia chegaremos, um dia, a pensar em nós mesmos integrados ao Universo, diferente do que é agora, em que a palavra Universo parece se referir sempre a eventos muito distantes e intangíveis”.

About the Stamps
The artwork of the sheet is composed of the 12 zodiac signs already issued in individual stamps, making a mandala with the four central stamps. The stamp on the upper left shows the zodiac signs of Pisces, Aries and Taurus, as well as their ruling planets (respectively Neptune, Mars and Venus). On the upper right are the zodiac signs of Gemini, Cancer and Leo, ruled by Mercury, the Moon and the Sun. The lower right stamp shows the zodiac signs of Virgo, Libra and Scorpio, whose rulers are Mercury, Venus and Pluto; and finally, the lower left stamp unites the zodiac signs of Capricorn, Sagittarius and Aquarius, ruled by Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus. All the stamps present illustration and symbol of each zodiac sign, and in the center is the Planet Earth. The technique of digital illustration was used.
Zodiacal mandala - putting the pieces of the puzzle together
To mark the astrological cycle of years 2019/2020, Correios Brasil launched 12 stamps honoring each of the signs of the Zodiac. Now, at the end of it, we toast the philatelists and Astrology lovers with a sheet that gathers all the signs in mandala format, this design that has fascinated and intrigued since antiquity.
The word mandala comes from Sanskrit and means circle. Its use in spiritual practices was already observed since the 8th century, in the region of Tibet, where the mandala, according to the Buddhist tradition, was considered a window for self-knowledge and for the understanding of the cosmos. However, circular forms are found in several ancient cultures, linked to calendars, astronomical observations and other natural cycles.
Zodiacal mandala
Astronomy and Astrology were once a single science. Astronomers of antiquity, believing in the power of the stars to rule and influence aspects of life, divided the sky into 12 parts, considering the orbit of the planets observed from the Earth. For each part they assigned a sign, according to the constellation sighted in that particular region of the sky.
Around the 16th century BC, the Babylonian astrologers, using the 360 degree circle (a zodiac of 12 signs similar to those of today), developed ephemerides (astrological data tables) that listed the planetary positions and eclipses. A thousand years later, they created the concept of natal astrology, which was seen as a predictor of a person’s life. The astrological chart, in mandala format, gathers all the deep and inspiring information about an individual and his personality.
In the zodiacal wheel is represented the totality of human experience, where each sign indicates a basic type of personality, determined, among other aspects, by the position occupied by the Sun at the moment the person was born. Each sign has its positive side, constructive (light), and its negative side, destructive (shadow).
The astral map is like a picture of the sky at the moment of a person’s birth. Besides the signs of the zodiac, this map comprises the four elements (fire, earth, air and water), the qualities (cardinal, fixed and changeable) and the polarities (positive and negative), the planets and their positions, the domiciles (12, in total, which are equivalent to specific areas of an individual’s life such as “Possessions and personal resources”, “Communication”, “Family environment” etc.) and the aspects (angles that are formed creating geometric relations between the planets: conjunction, sextile, quadrature, trine and opposition).
By putting all the parts of an astrological chart together, it is possible to see what is dominant, what is underneath the surface - this is the art of Astrology: to interpret all these elements.
Astrology as a self-knowledge tool
Astrology was once taught in colleges and universities as a specialization and was a required subject for medical students until the end of the 17th century. Today, it is used in various aspects of life. It is not divination, but a tool that helps in the search for selfknowledge. The astral map does not define or label an individual, but it explains behaviors and works as a guide, indicating to people the ways to increase their well-being.
Fact is that Astrology has gained strength, driven by the growing movement of people who seek self-knowledge and the key to the fulfillment of their life purpose, who believe they are inside and not outside themselves.
As the astrologer Oscar Quiroga said: “By making good use of Astrology we will one day come to think about ourselves integrated in the Universe, different from what it is now, in which the word Universe always seems to refer to very distant and intangible events”.
